Reiki

Many ancient cultures embraced the belief that life energy flows through the body, deeply affecting our entire being.
Quantum physics shows that what appears to be solid matter is, in fact, mostly empty space filled with rapidly moving subatomic particles—organized packets of energy in constant motion.

Current research strongly suggests that energy does extend throughout and beyond the physical body, and that disruptions or imbalances in its flow correlate to physical, mental, and emotional illness.

The healing art of Reiki (pronounced RAY‑key) addresses these imbalances to support your good health and well‑being.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning “universal life energy.” It is a gentle method of hands‑on healing that taps into the energy referred to in other traditions as chi, ki, or prana. Reiki complements all forms of medical treatment and can enhance personal well‑being for anyone seeking relaxation or a greater sense of inner balance.

Where did Reiki come from?
Reiki originated in Japan in the early 1900s with Dr. Mikao Usui. It was later brought to the West by Hawayo Takata in the late 1930s and has since spread worldwide .

How does Reiki work?
A Reiki practitioner gently places their hands on or just above the body, allowing universal life energy to flow where it’s needed most. This energy helps release tension, promotes relaxation, and encourages the body’s natural healing response

What Happens During a Session?
To receive Reiki, most people lie comfortably on a table fully clothed, though the technique is adaptable to any setting — even while sitting in a chair or resting in bed. The practitioner lightly places or holds their hands on or above specific areas of the body such as the head, shoulders, back, chest, or limbs. No pressure, manipulation, or oils are used.

How Does Reiki Feel?
Reiki sessions are typically very relaxing. Recipients often describe sensations such as warmth, gentle tingling, or calm waves of energy moving through the body. Some people drift into a meditative state or fall asleep entirely.

Benefits
Reiki energy allows muscles to relax and increases blood flow to treated areas, which in turn quickens the healing process.  Practitioners and clients report help with stress, headaches, insomnia, upset stomach, sprains and other minor conditions.  Occasionally, miraculous results are reported.  Reiki also promotes psychological healing.
Many clients report decreased pain, reduced anxiety, better sleep, and faster recovery from illness or medical treatment.
Some studies show improved immune and nervous system function and increased mobility for those managing chronic conditions.

Use in Hospitals
Reiki is becoming increasingly popular with the medical community, with over 800 hospitals across the U.S. offering Reiki as a standard part of hospital care.  A research study at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut indicates that Reiki improved patient sleep by 86%, reduced pain by 78%, reduced nausea by 80%, and reduced anxiety during pregnancy by 94%.  In addition, nurses report that Reiki helps patients heal faster with less pain, reduces stress and improves mental attitude, improves appetite, and reduces the the negative side effects of chemotherapy, radiation and other medical procedures.
